Who is Suzanne Draper?
Suzanne Draper grew up in Sydney, Australia,…
….. in a non-horsey family, but her passion for horses began early. From the age of 8, she spent every weekend at a farm in Freemans Reach, 100 miles from Sydney, where she attended Pony Club and learned the fundamentals of horsemanship. During her years there, Suzanne became an instructor, helping to train and develop numerous horses and riders.
As her passion for horses grew, Suzanne owned several Thoroughbreds and competed in Three-Day Eventing and dressage. When she moved to Wagga Wagga in southern New South Wales to attend teachers’ college, her focus became more centered on dressage and eventing.
After relocating to the United States with her husband due to his career, Suzanne continued her equestrian pursuits, importing two German Warmbloods (Hanoverians). She successfully competed with one of them at the Prix St. George level in dressage, showcasing her dedication to the sport.
Throughout her life, Suzanne has always placed a strong emphasis on the emotional and psychological bond between horse and rider. This bond was especially important during Marvin’s recovery after his traumatic brain injury, which has driven her to share their inspiring journey in her book, Resilience on Four Hooves.
